Der schönste Tag meines Lebens, Michael Ande

The story in the film Der schönste Tag Meines Lebens, 1957, is the same as in An Orphan Boy of Vienna from 1936. That is ok with me since I am the sentimental guy.
The boy is played by Michael Ande born on the 5th of October 1944 in Bad Wiesse Germany. Michael is still active as an actor.
The little film clip below will give you an idea of the film and you can download it with the link at the end of the post.
For the Japanese visitors to the blog: This version comes with Japanese subtitles! Original language is German but the story is easy to follow without much knowledge of the German language.

You will find the film, in three rar archives, here:

Sub Tuum Presidium, W.A. Mozart Max Emanuel Cencic and Steven Möckel

This is a great performance of Sub Tuum Presidium by W.A. Mozart. It is sung by Max Emanuel Cenecic and Steven Möckel in Stadt pfarrkirche St Stephan near Wien in 1990.

Max Emanuel Cencic

Max Emanuel Cencic was born on September 21, 1976 in Zagreb/Croatia.
At the age of 6 he sang the Queen of the Night in his native town.
From 1986-92 he was a member and soloist of the Vienna Boys' Choir.
In September 1992, after his voice break, he started a solo career.
A special technique developed by his mother, Silvia von Vojnic-Purcar,
allowed him to continue singing in the soprano range.
After a voluntary sabbatical, he returned in 2000 as a countertenor
and is in great demand. He has released six CDs as a counter-tenor.

The recordings here are from october 1989 and in track 6, Sub Tuum Presidium,
we can also enjoy the voice of Steven Möckel.

Pueri concinite Nato regi psallite
Voce pia dicite
Apparuit quem genuit Maria
Sum implenta quae praedixit Gabriel
Eia, Eia, virgo Deum genuit
Quem divina voluit clementia
Hodie apparuit
Apparuit in Israel
Ex Maria virgine natus est Rex!

Ferdinand and Ernst Jankowitsch, 1956

Ferdinand and Ernst Jankowitsch were twins and soloists in the Wiener Sängerknaben in the mid 50-ties. I do not have many tracks with them but they show an extraordinary skill also considering the audio quality of recordings at that time. If you have more tracks with the twins drop them in the filebox!

Ernst Jankowitsch, 1956, Laudate Dominum, Mozart.mp3

An Orphan Boy of Vienna, 1936

An Orphan Boy of Vienna, from 1936, is built on the same story as
Der Schönste Tag meines Lebens from 1957.( Coming soon at this theatre! :-) )
I love this kind of simple and sentimental stories. They revive bittersweet feelings, bring me back in time and let me shed some tears, just like then,
a very long time ago.
For you guys and girls that are not so sentimental but share with me the love for the Wiener Sängerknaben this film is well worth seeing although in black and white with all the techniqual limitations of the 1930-ties.
Yes, of course, there is singing!

Books : Franz Endler, Wiener Sängerknaben, 1974

There are many books about the history of the Wiener Sängerknaben, most of them out of print like this one. Franz Endler, himself once a Wiener sängerknabe, knows what he is talking about. You can still find the book in antiquariats or now and then on Ebay. Here a few pictures with texts from the book that gives you an idea about the content. If you find the book and want to buy it check if it includes the EP with two tracks especially made for the book. It is worth it!
With the link below you can get 18 pictures from the book.

About the music player

You find the music player to the left at the bottom of the Home page. If you click on the arrow in the grey field it will open. When it is open you can click on the playlist-button and choose a song among the ones that are published on the blog. At the left you also have an icon that makes the playlist play in the background in a new window. This means that you can continue to listen to the music even if you leave this blog and go to some other site on the internet. When you want to shut it off you just go to the separate player window.
The music player will also open whenever you click on a song button in a post.

This is the first post in the music video section. Sängerslust, by Johann Strauss II.
I suppose it has been sung by WSK since it was composed in 1869.

Symphony in the Mountains, 1935

Thank you Anonymous for sending the links to this film!

The story is about a public school teacher who teaches singing and skiing instead of the regular curriculum.
The students are of course played by Wiener Sängerknaben. The quality of sound and picture is what you can expect from a black and white film from 1935.
